Garret and Anna met in college at Gardner-Webb University. The two were always in the same friend group, but sparks did not ignite until they both attended graduate school. Garret, being shy, was a little nervous to ask Anna out on their first date. When he finally worked up the courage, he showed up on Anna’s front door step and said “I just couldn’t wait any longer. I had to see you and ask you…will you go on a date with me?” *Awww!* The couple has been together since December 2014.
Garret popped the question in one of the couple’s favorite places: Charleston! He got down on one knee right at sunrise on the beautiful Folly Beach, SC on April 30, 2016. How romantic is this?!! Anna stated that she is happy this is where he decided to propose, because they always had intentions of moving to Charleston after the wedding.
The couple was married on October 23, 2016, coincidentally, the same day as Garret’s birthday. Talk about a great birthday present!! The ceremony was held at the church Anna grew up in, Grassy Pond Church in Gaffney. They enjoyed dancing the night away and spending time with friends and family at their reception, which was held at Cleveland Park, in Spartanburg. A very special part of the reception was Garret and Anna’s first dance. One of their friends sang and played acoustic guitar to Ben Rector’s “Forever Like That”. We love how this adds more of a personal touch!
The bride looked stunning in her Justin Alexander A-line gown. We love how she added the simple pearl necklace to compliment that Queen Anne neckline. Talk about the perfect dress for a sophisticated look. Poffie Girls also had the pleasure of being able to dress all of Anna’s bridesmaids. Her girls looked fabulous standing by Anna’s side. They were dressed in matching Marsala colored chiffon gowns by Wtoo.
Looking back, Anna and Garret agree that one of their favorite aspects of the big day was doing the First Look. There is nothing like the feeling of seeing your soon-to-be spouse for the first time on your wedding day!
After honeymooning at an all-inclusive resort in Aruba, the couple is now happily settling into married life. Nowadays, they enjoy going on picnics together or just relaxing and ordering dinner together.
As for advice for future brides and grooms, Anna and Garret said it is all about the details! There are so many fun ways to incorporate meaningful and unique details into your big day, whether it is wearing a family heirloom, or having one of your friends play guitar for your first dance.
Anna, you made such a beautiful Poffie Bride! We wish you and Garret the best of luck!
